Advances in cosmetic dentistry have put a Hollywood-style spectacular smile within reach for virtually any patient. One particularly useful tool in cosmetic dentistry is the dental veneer. These thin porcelain shells that sit atop your natural teeth are versatile devices that your dentist can use to correct problems ranging from gaps to misalignments. Veneers can conceal chips or cracks in the teeth or cover up tough stains that don’t respond to other teeth whitening treatments.
One approach that can improve the appearance of damaged teeth is the dental crown. Teeth that are cracked, broken or severely decayed can be restored using one of our practice’s all-porcelain crowns. In fact, a crown might help you to keep a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted.
Crowns also can be used to resize or realign teeth in certain cases. Crowns are also used as part of fixed permanent bridges. The teeth on both sides of the gap are fitted with crowns that help to hold the prosthetic tooth in place. Losing a permanent tooth can cause serious problems for the neighboring teeth. A bridge can be fabricated that matches your existing teeth and helps to maintain your natural bite and rebalance chewing forces.
In terms of form and function, dental implants represent the ultimate in tooth replacement technology. They look, work and feel more like natural teeth than other alternatives, like bridges or dentures. Dental implants are small titanium posts that stand in for a missing tooth’s root. Titanium is a biocompatible metal, allowing it to facilitate the osseointegration process by which the dental implant fuses with the bone in the jaw.
Dr. Maxey is the only dentist who has never caused me any pain. He is kind and attentive to 'dentist anxiety' and very thorough.
